Here, the rehearsal room becomes a landscape of its own, shaped by light, shadow, movement and stillness. Each photograph captures a different part of the process: discipline repeated until it becomes instinct, breath held between movements, the return to first position, and the quiet pause before beginning again.
Known for finding atmosphere in remote places and overlooked moments, Marry brings the same sensitivity to the world of ballet. Rather than documenting the grandeur of the stage, she reveals the concentration, solitude and vulnerability from which that grandeur is created.
